The following link will bring you to an article that discusses the Oklahoma State Legislature voting to remove the AP U.S. History course from their schools. This is taking place because they feel that the AP U.S. exam is too negative and doesn’t talk about American exceptionalism. Let us keep in mind that as teachers we are very influential and there shouldn’t be a left or right agenda when it comes to presenting information to our students. Students should hear opposing viewpoints and then come to their own conclusions. The question that we should always refer back to is; “Is this what is best for the students?” In our economic system students are in competition with other students from around the globe. How are students in Oklahoma going to compete against students from other states, let alone the rest of the world?
